Instruments: Violin Viola
My method varies from student to student - It really depends on the students level. For a beginner student, I would focus giving the basic music foundation for violin: posture and bow hold, solid intonation and tone, and good sense of rhythm. More importantly, I teach the student to be aware of how to create a beautiful sound versus a bad sound. Furthermore, I use Hirmaly Violin Scale book for technique and Suzuki Book for the music pieces for beginner students. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than to see a students passion and love for music grow as they see and hear their skills evolve. I encourage students to progress in their skills/techniques/musical knowledge at their own pace. I hope to pass on my passion and love for music onto my students by setting realistic goals catered to each student, starting with their very first lesson. I love to acknowledge their accomplishments along the way and push them to want to be the best musician they can be. Read More

My teaching style varies depending on the students needs. I tend to lean more towards the encouraging side of things simply because in my experience, encouragement works! I find that if I can get my students to develop a curiosity and passion for music, then they are more likely to be successful. Each student learns a little bit differently. It's my job to learn and adapt to the students strengths and weaknesses in order to best help their progression through violin/viola studies. Read More

For young students, I use a Suzuki Method hybrid, meaning I incorporate additional note-reading and music theory elements while using the Suzuki Violin books and Suzuki's core values of imitation and ear training. I also supplement with many pieces outside of the Suzuki Method, including folk, blues, fiddle, and other styles. As students progress I include traditional etudes, technique studies and scales. My ultimate goal is to give my students all the tools they need to play and learn pieces on their own, and to that end I ensure they fully comprehend and master each step of learning before introducing new concepts. Instruments: Violin Cello Viola
As a cello instructor, my students have been accepted into several top music programs including the University of North Texas, the University of Houston, Texas Tech University, Sam Houston State University, and the University of Texas at Arlington. Several have gone on to become teachers themselves. I have taught students of all age levels and experience, from beginners both young and old, to conservatory level; from basic setup and posture, to advanced left hand and bowing technique. Read More

Beginning students - Children: I will begin with either Suzuki or Essential Elements for the initial learning process. I focus on form and producing a clear, clean sound. Once they are more comfortable with the physical aspect of holding the instrument and producing a nice sound, I will add scales, arpeggios, and Etudes (exercises), as well as eventually adding music from the classical repertoire. I would also be open to working on pop music/current music if the student needs more motivation and tends to be bored by only classical. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin Viola Trumpet Recorder Fiddle
I like to start out beginning string students with Essential Elements 2000 by the Hal Leonard company. They have a complete system which includes professionally recorded accompaniments which provide a model for the student to hear how to play with good intonation, tone and rhythm which are the most important basics. In addition I recommend other sheet music with piano accompaniment or books with CD accompaniments that can be performed for friends and family. Read More
