I believe in learning the fundamentals but I believe that experience should be enjoyable. That's why we "play" music in the first place! This can mean different things to different students but a focus on positive reinforcement and encouragement toward specific musical goals will always be the guiding factor in my approach. I also encourage students to take ownership of the musical skills learned by experimenting with composition and improvisation. Read More

I first started teaching private lessons on a routine basis starting in 2016 while I was in school. Having finished my degree, I currently teach full time with a studio of over 30 students in grades 5 through 12. I have learned an incredible amount from teaching students how to play the trumpet, I tell many of my students that I have learned just as much from them as they have from me. I still take private lessons from teachers around the central Texas area and beyond when I can work it into my schedule so that I can keep learning and passing on whatever I learn to my students. I began teaching lessons in college, and have enjoyed it from the very first day. I try to evaluate each student spefifically and see what they need to improve in the most efficient manner possible. Exercises and drills are present in my lessons, but I alwaystry to teach the bulk of trumpet fundamentals through actual music such as etudes, solos, band music, duets, etc. In this style of teaching, the students can pick what they want to play (after I give them a few guidelines), and we can still target the areas of playing that need work. For young beginners, I make use the method book that is being used at their school as well as supplying materials specifically for their instrument. As the student progresses, he/she will be introduced to solo repertoire as well advance method books for recital and competitive purposes. The objective is keep the student challenged but at the same time making sure the lessons are enjoyable. For intermediate and advanced students, I use the school curriculum at the school they happen to attend to meet the requirements of the music program. Read More
