I started teaching lessons in college. I began teaching lessons 6 years ago, and have always taught in-home lessons. I believe that teaching in the home will help my students be more comfortable practicing at home. I prefer the one on one setting that teaching lessons gives you over the large ensemble setting. I believe it gives more opportunity to grow as a player. I graduated in 2011 from SMU with my music degree in Trumpet Performance, and have been teaching privately in the Dallas area ever since. Although while at SMU my focus was mainly on orchestral playing and classical techniques, I am equally comfortable playing jazz and commercial styles, and honestly probably play those styles just as much as I do orchestral work now. The biggest joy in teaching and working with students is seeing them develop a passion and love for music. My teaching experience is very hands on and I love to model everything that I teach. I first started teaching private lessons on a routine basis starting in 2016 while I was in school. Having finished my degree, I currently teach full time with a studio of over 30 students in grades 5 through 12. I have learned an incredible amount from teaching students how to play the trumpet, I tell many of my students that I have learned just as much from them as they have from me. I still take private lessons from teachers around the central Texas area and beyond when I can work it into my schedule so that I can keep learning and passing on whatever I learn to my students. Everyone has unique physiology and strengths and weaknesses, so each person should be taught according to their specific characteristics.
