All students must find time to practice during the week, but the parents must be a huge part of helping their child learn this new instrument. We will set weekly, realistic goals for each lesson. During the lesson, we will review the last concept that was learned, go over the lesson for the day and then create a lesson for the following week and be sure that each lesson is explained and understood. For more advanced students, I typically have a lesson plan or a direction that I want to go after assessing strengths and weaknesses. The Piano Adventure Series is great because the song arrangements have tiered piano proficiency for beginner to intermediate players. After students work in these books, other repertoire can be added to perform for holidays and recitals. I was a solo performer playing shows around the Dallas/Fort Worth area and in a popular Salsa band for years before I finally decided to get back into school and see where this musical journey would take me.
