I graduated in 2011 from SMU with my music degree in Trumpet Performance, and have been teaching privately in the Dallas area ever since. Although while at SMU my focus was mainly on orchestral playing and classical techniques, I am equally comfortable playing jazz and commercial styles, and honestly probably play those styles just as much as I do orchestral work now. I love teaching lessons and view each student as a unique way to approach the instrument. Read More

In all classes it is essential to establish a technique routine that let students grown up quickly in musical performance. Scales, arpeggios, articulations, intensities, and specific elements to each one instrument have to be part of daily routine. It is important too to maintain motivation and inspiration through interesting musical pieces to the learner and that represents challenges to go step by step. In French Horn classes (my main speciality, beginners to advance level) beginners can start with methods as First Steps for Horn (Brown), Rubank elementary, The French Horn Step by Step (Macri), Maxime Alphonse, Kopprash, Kling. For beginner students who are children, I usually start with the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has advanced to where I can see that they have a good grasp of the fundamentals of the instrument, that is typically when I begin to introduce solo repertoire and supplement with my own material. For adult beginners, I typically will try and use the Essential Elements book to start with but not for very long. Read More

With consistent practice on both fundamentals and repertoire, I believe that anybody can learn how to play an instrument. Learning an instrument is like building your dream house. You start start by building a strong foundation through fundamentals and then by working over a period of time, your dream house will start to become a reality. My goal as a teacher is to help each of my students understand what they need to do to practice on their own in order to see improvement over time. Read More

I started teaching guitar lessons in 1999 (20 years this year!) Since those days I've gotten two degrees and taught at colleges, and private institutions, as well as high school and middle schools. I've found that combining textbook music instruction along with learning to play some of the music the student is listening to keeps them growing and engaged. Most importantly it makes learning music fun! I love jazz and I encourage efforts of composition and improvisation to help the student take ownership of the notes they're learning. Read More

Each child is different and will be treated as a unique individual when learning and grasping music. I believe to teach one is to reach one. What if music is the key to unlocking this child's passion in life? Music may fuel what motivates this child to learn. It is excited to watch children move at their own pace. I always can tell if a child is really interested or the parent is the one wanting the student to take lessons. Read More
