Next, I observe the student's playing, in an attempt to determine where the gaps are in their development. I am graduated with my Bachelor of Music in Music Performance at The Pennsylvania State University studying with distinguished professor Velvet Brown. I am currently pursuing a Master of Music in Music Performance studying with Professor Lance LaDuke. I play euphonium, trombone, tuba and piano and can teach all four. I currently have 10+ years of teaching and playing. I have many ensemble experiences including 3 time Connecticut All-State Concert Band, 1 time NAfME All-National Concert Band, 1 time NAfME All-Eastern Concert Band, orchestral experience both in youth ensembles and at Penn State, Concert band experience at Penn State, and chamber ensemble experience in tuba/euphonium quartets and brass quintets. For beginning woodwind students, I have had success using the Rubank method books as a starter. Alongside a method book, I like to work on material chosen by the student, as well as my own supplemntal exercises. It is important for the student to understand the musical concepts associated with the repertoire, as well as focusing on performing well. I also prefer to have my students keep a practice log book, in order to track their progress. For piano and music theory, I like to use the John Thompson method for beginner students, and the Bastien Piano Literature series for more advanced students. I can teach many instruments that I have taught myself how to play well and efficiently. I play in many bands and I am always learning new styles of music. My best instruments are Piano, Bass, Drums, Ukulele, Guitar, Percussion, Harmonica, Recorder, Tin Whistle, Mandolin and also Trumpet. My secondary instruments are everything else. I can fool around on Violin, Cello, Banjo and Trombone as an amateur. I could blow into a Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, French Horn and probably anything else I can get my hands on, but I would not feel comfortable teaching them yet because I don't have enough time in the world to learn them and figure out how to play them myself and get as good as I can on those instruments.
