I am a strong believer in being passionate about things and sharing them with other people, which is why I am teaching music. I studied music education on the saxophone at Stephen F Austin State University and have been the lead of and taught within many different ensembles. I attended the NASA(National American Saxophone Alliance) conference in 2014 in Chicago, IL at Illinois State University School Of Music. I've seen and met some of the best saxophonists alive, who my professor learned from. Read More

Throughout my musical career ranging from fourth grade on up to the college level I have played in many groups stemming from small ensembles up to bands and orchestras. I have had the privilege of playing with some top quality players and studying with some of the best teachers and professors on all levels. I first began teaching as a student at CU Boulder, giving private lessons as a student job. Within a few years, however, teaching became a passion, and I have since made it my career. On a given day I currently find myself teaching anything from elementary recorders to high school tuba or trombone lessons, from Stomp-style percussion ensemble to concert band, and everything in between, and I am loving every minute of. When taking on beginner students, I typically use a blend of method books and novice musical pieces to begin to build musicianship. With intermediate musicians, I tend to seek out anything of interet to the student while incorporating harder repertoire to strengthen musicianship and to continue to peek interest in music. With adult musicians, I let them guide me to their area of interest, and I capitalize on that to guide them to better musicianship, no matter what their skill level may be. Read More

I am a highly motivated, hard-working, and outgoing individual. I love people and believe thatteachingmusic lessons is one the best ways to connect with students of all ages and develop a relationship with them. I started learning piano in Kindergarten, began Saxophone in my 5th grade Band, and started tutoring other band students in 6th Grade. In 7th Grade I earned scholarship to attend Illinois Summer Youth Music Camp at the University of Illinois. Read More

For beginning students I usually start with the Standards of Excellence series of method books. Once the student has grasped the fundamentals of playing, I will introduce solo repertoire students can begin working on to explore aspects of playing such as expression, tuning, phrasing, and different articulations. I use chorales to work on breathing, phrasing, and dynamics. For intermediate and advanced students, I will ask what they feel they need to work on to help guide my instruction. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Ukulele
With most beggining students I use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements 2000. For intermediate students I find the Rubank methods move at a faster pace and put a larger emphases on scales. For beginning students, when students are ready I will introduce an easy solo book. In most cases I use Belwin Master Solos or an Essential Elements supplement depending on the interests of the student. For students interested in learning jazz or other forms of improvisation, I would use Hal Leonard's "How to Play from a Real Book" in combination with the Hal Leonard or Aebersold play-along series.
