For beginners I like to start with Essential Elements 2000, although this book isn't specifically written with trumpet in mind, I do I want to get students making music as soon as possible and EE 2000 is a great start. As students advance I use some of the standard trumpet method books such as - Clarke Technical Studies, Arbans Complete Method for Trumpet, I also write out exercises that can't be found in books but feel will help the student progress. With beginning students, I start with the fundamentals of the instrument, including embouchure and finger technique, as well as the ability to breathe properly, which is fundamental to playing any wind instrument.  I also introduce beginning students to basic musical concepts, such as reading music, and tailor the musical selection to their tastes or to whatever group they are playing in, most often a school band class.  For more advanced students, I observe what areas the student needs the most work in and tailor the lessons specifically to dealing with those areas, as well as catering to their individual musical tastes. I am very familiar with all of the standard piano methods, and will evaluate the student in the first few lessons to choose a method that they will be the most comfortable with.  I supplement all lessons with music theory and outside repertoire, allowing the students to choose from their favorite genres/artists.  For theatre, musical theatre, and vocal coaching, I also employ Linklater and Alexander techniques. Young students begin their instrumental journey with some basic theory lessons while we simultaneously explore the physicality of playing trumpet. From there, we begin learning fundamentals--exercises on the instrument, with breathing, and mental practice--which are reviewed with the student from beginner to professional. In 2010, I performed in the Eutiner Festspiele in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany as principal horn, performing operas and symphonic works. In 2012 in Prague, Czechia, my chamber group won second prize at the Ameropa International Concertante Competition with Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for Four Winds in E-flat major, K. 297b. That same summer, I was accepted into the Colorado College Music Festival with full scholarship.
