In 2001, I graduated from Russian Academy Of Music in Moscow with a Masters Of the Arts degree in Trumpet Performance. (although I'm happy to do so) For me the more important and rewarding factor is assisting in growing a flame of a passion, love understanding of music performance into a wild fire! For beginning students, I start with Accent on Achievement, book one. Once the student has gotten a grasp of the fundamentals, I then introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for the student. I will always reference the method book if students are having trouble with a certain technique. For beginning jazz students, I start with the Greg Fishman Jazz books. Once students have mastered this book, I then switch to the omnibook and real book and allow students to learn and try to improvise a solo. Read More

Students will always start with fundamentals to ensure a steady foundation. The exact materials may vary, but I usually create the specific exercises that students need to work on week to week. Each part of their individual practice session will have an 'aim' for students to focus on while they are playing. By teaching thoughtful practice, students can avoid wasted practice time and find success at more frequent intervals. I have two main philosophies I base my teaching method on, regardless of age, skill level, or genre. 1) Fundamentals are extremely important, and 2) Music is an aural experience.
