Music is not a test and their is no failing, there is only the end result, which ends when the student makes progress, no matter how long it takes. I aim to teach my students the difference between "playing the trumpet" and "making music" and how this distinction is applied to practice. "Playing the trumpet" is a physically demanding task that requires diligent, often tedious practice to become skilled at. "Making music", on the other hand, can be done by anyone at any skill level and is lots of fun. The goal of practicing the trumpet is to become so familiar with the instrument that it becomes an extension of our body and mind, as effortless and automatic to perform as breathing or walking. I began teaching private lessons as a high school student. I was the section leader in marching band and would often work one-on-one with trumpet players in my section. I began teaching in-home lessons during my first four years of undergrad. After earning my music education degree, I began teaching privately at the Adam's Music Conservatory in Maple Shade, New Jersey.
