I will give assignments and create goals but also want the student to be self motivated. I will not be overly strict when it comes to practice. In addition to performing in myriad musical idioms, I have made a career of private teaching, having conducted over 26,000 lessons since 2001. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, especially for brass instruments. I also tend to mix in some fun songs that are more well known using my own arrangements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I just graduated from Temple University with my masters degree in Jazz Studies, but am versed in many styles of playing and composing. As a freelance trumpeter, I have played at venues all over the U.S. and multiple countries in Europe.
