All of my students follow more or less a similar path that deviates a bit once they have developed some. No matter the age I start all students off with building fundamentals of tone, flexibility, articulation, and range. I use a combination of exercises from David Vining, UNC's own Buddy Baker, and Emory Remington. While building fundamental playing skills I will have students begin playing etudes. Younger students will start in their band method books, but as time goes on they will transition into Rochut's Melodious etudes, and the Rubank method books. Read More

I also try to find solo repertoire for students based on their age and level of experience. Performing as a soloist is just as important as being in an ensemble. The Rochut Legato Studies for trombone and Blahzevich Clef studies are also great tools for more advanced students. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with musicians of all backgrounds and levels. In 2019 I graduated from UMass Amherst with a BM in Jazz studies and a BS in environmental science. Studying with Eric Berlin (principal trumpet of the Albany Symphony Orchestra) and Jeff Holmes (grammy winning piano and trumpet player) informed my knowledge of trumpet technique and music theory. Throughout my time as a performer, I have had the privilege to play with great musicians like Sput Searight of Snarky Puppy, Doobie Powell, Jake Sherman, Avery Wilson of the Voice, and child prodigy Aron Hodek, among many others.
