My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

Once students are more advanced we begin to add solo repertoire tailored to the level and genres the student is interested in. With my voice students, we begin by studying how the voice works and we develop a routine of exercises that help develop the proper coordination necessary for healthy vocal production. We then learn to apply these principles to whatever song we wish to sing, ensuring that whenever we use our voice we are doing it in the healthiest and most efficient way possible. Read More

I do not have a set typical method I use for all my students because everyone is different. I begin with assessing a new student to find what their goals are and their commitment level is. All of my students find their lessons to be challenging, but my goal is to also provide them with a nurturing and creative atmoshpere. My students find that they make significant improvement every week. Read More

for younger students, we usually work through a book together to understand the fundamentals of music before we start to approach more complex lessons. I tend to use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements as well as other series' depending on the student's level and musical interest. For adult lessons, I typically create a unique lesson plan that includes warmups, technique exercises, and the learning of songs or solos all dependent on that student's particular interests. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Alfred's Prep Course Level A which provides strong basic skills in all relevant areas; such as, note reading, rhythm, piano theory etc. I normally advice students to follow Alfred's recommended steps until they reach Level 2. Then, in preparation for basic and more advanced classical pieces, I will introduce students with fingers practice "Hanon" and other fun yet effective program. Read More
