I have been teaching since childhood. I am available as a tutor in trumpet, beginning piano, music theory, and general music. Musical studies began early started for me on piano at age 6. At age 10, I started trumpet in the school band and after interested in the more traditional classical and church music. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, I have been consistently teaching students for 20 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument and enjoy the music and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. I began teaching in 2012 as a senior in high school working at a community music school's summer arts camp in New York. I worked there for five summers as an assistant instructor. I taught beginner and intermediate French horn and trumpet lessons while working there. Many of my students, both at the camp and in my private studio have gone on to make District Bands and Honor Ensembles. I usually start my beginning piano students who are children, in Alfred's Basic Piano Library, Lesson Book 1A. After a few months, I begin adding solo repertoire that is appropriate for age and ability. For middle school age students and adults, I start with Alfred's Basic Piano, Adult, Level 1. I also like to find out the student's individual interest and find repertoire that they are interested in learning and that are aligned with their current skills. Read More

I strongly believe in utilizing differentiation in teaching music which is why I gravitate towards private instruction. I understand that every student has different learning capabilities which is why I cater each lesson to each student's unique abilities. I work with each student at their own pace to learn and improve upon their skills as a musician. Effective music education is both developmentally and culturally appropriate: By working with the student to understand their interests, I hope to provide them with an experience that will enrich their musical and social life outside of the work we do together. Through infancy, I believe Music Learning Theory is effective for developing musical and linguistic skills. The methods that I would typically use are the Arbans complete Conservatory method for trumpet and Cornet. Schlossberg´s Daily Drills and Studies, Clarkes method and Caruso. I have been studying these four methods quite some time now and understand not only the instruction on the page but the purpose of the excercise itself.
