I am a Music Educator with a lot of trumpet playing experience. I have never stopped playing my trumpet. I practice my trumpet as time permits and perform every chance I have. I like to travel and study musical styles and instruments from different countries. I also love the outdoors. I am passionate about instrumental music and want my students to feel the same. Now fast-forward to March 2021, I was hired by Presidio ISD to teach middle school band. From then until May 2022, I got to teach middle school band along with choir and mariachi. I also occasionally helped at the local high school. What I have learned while teaching middle school, especially with beginners, is that playing along can be helpful initially. I began teaching trumpet when I was a high school student. My students were middle school aged peers within my school district that needed additional guidance. While in college, I maintained two dozen or so students within my own private studio. Some of these students were non-music majors that were given to me by my own voice professor. My primary instrument is the human voice. A complicated yet versatile instrument that is unique in every person, and as such should be treated with specific pedagogical methods that best suit a student's age, skill level, and learning style. My teaching experience sates back to running trumpet sectionals (in Junior High High School) for an All Star Jazz Band in my home town. When I was 16 I started teaching younger trumpet students as well. I descovered early on that I had a passion for directing and teaching. This stayed with me, and I always have incorporated education into my directing and leadership styles as a perormer. As a Musical Director for Royal Caribbean I would regularly have to teach an hour long show to my international band in under an hour and a half.I know that learning an instrument is hard work and that motivation is key to success.
