It is important that the student comes to their own realizations about playing using me as a guide, rather than being spoon-fed the information. Knowing how each student learns most efficiently is critical to success in a lesson, and I believe that each student should be taught using as multiple instructional methods as well, including sound, sight, and feel. By learning early on why the student chose their instrument and what they hope to get out of it, I can easily find a path to success that is both efficient and exciting. Read More

For my beginning students, I have them start with KJOS Standards Of Excellence. Once they have began to learn the techniques to properly play, I will begin them with repitoire that I find suitable for them to play and also what they would like to learn so this way the students are learning what they want, which makes the music learning process even more enjoyable! By making a individual lesson plan it allows my students to be able to advance at their own pace and also have the students learn their instruments even better. Read More

Practice is ideal for each student. I encourage my students in their practicing. Progress will be made most quickly by those students who maintain the recommended practicing time (1 hour per day). Parents are also encouraged to be involved in their students practice. Taking the time to listen to your child play their weekly songs, or creating a set time for practicing in the students daily routine are good ways to become involved. Read More

Something I prioritize in my teaching is the development of efficient problem-solving skills. This is such an important skill to me because I firmly believe that if a student is unable to learn and discover things without my help as a teacher, then I have effectively taught them nothing. I believe teaching is one of the most important things I can do to 'give back' in music. I've had the great fortune of studying with some of the best trumpet teachers in the world. I first began teaching in High School and since my return to the instrument, have maintained a small studio practice with students of all ages and abilities. Read More

My teaching includes all aspects of music; Musical theory, sight singing, as well as Music History. My teaching style allows the child to have fun while they learn their instrument, but I emphasize a strong practice regiment. Your child will understand that while learning music and an instrument can be fun, there will be some work involved if they want to become great. I usually use either the Alfred or Rubank method books to supplement a curriculum that I tailor make for each individual student. Read More
