At the very beginning level I would start with fundamentals from whatever book I feel would be best for the student depending on their age and knowledge. Beforehand I definitely will need to asses their knowledge so I can do so accordingly. I however will now focus on solely fundamentals and will try to include in songs that the student would like to learn as long as it is in the bounds of reality, the lessons I provide are only part of the equation and the real work is what is put in after the lesson. I have been teaching private lessons at Northside Christian School for almost 2 full years at this point, and have been helping out during marching band season every year since 2017. During the first part of 2021, I have also substituted for jazz instructor during the school year of Tarpon Springs High School, and while there I have taught more students on jazz improvisation as well as fundamentals on the trombone. I also occasionally come in to my old high school to work with the jazz ensemble, combo, or even just specific sections of the band. Read More

For beginning students who are just picking up the horn, we focus on the very basics on how to make noises on it. Once they understand how it make sounds, we slow work on refining and controlling so we can actually learn to play! Older and more experienced students will learn how to make Music, not just playing the notes on the page. A lot of time goes into understanding musicality, so we will often listen to recordings, play together to find different way to express musical ideas, and take time to really understand and comprehend different music genres. Nothing excites me more than to see that a student feels happy from learning something new or overcoming a challenge. My teaching experience began in college as an arranger, and in assisting staff at Rickards high school in Tallahassee I later became the percussion instructor at Deerfield beach high school, and the brass director at Miami carol city senior high, I am currently the assistant band director, and assistant conductor at Miramar high school.
