I use a variety of methods for my teaching style. I usually have a few method books that I bring to a first lesson, and after meeting the student I will decide on the best one. I had the great pleasure of studying under Allen Vizzutti while completing my degree from the Univeristy of Washington. For more advanced students, we will be using the Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet in addition to solo repertoire other supplementary materials. For students in second or third grade who are interested in playing a wind instrument, but are not quite big enough yet, I offer recorder lessons. Learning the recorder is an excellent introduction to playing a wind instrument. For my beginning students I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Then we move to the "Arban" book and eventually start working on solo rep. Another thing I like to implement is the breathing gym, which not only helps as a musician but can also assure you having clear lungs! I usually try to do fun things for example if my student is young I ask them whats their favorite pop song and I usually arrange it or find an arrangement and spend a lesson doing that, or even teaching them to learn it by ear. Also, my instruction will be further tailed depending on the students goals. Some of my students have wanted to become college music majors and others simply wanted to learn the instruments recreationally. It was after spending time in marching band and concert bands that I decided I wanted to teach music for a living. I pursued that love in college and started teaching privately once I was in school.
