I focus on the fundamentals. When a student has a firm grasp on the fundamentals they can survive in any arena being a musician may place you in. Additionally I like to help my students discover their unique voice and how that uniqueness helps to add to a bands overall performance. Additionally, To me band is much more then just an extracurricular activity. It is an opportunity for me to touch the life of a child by allowing them to see the larger world through performances and trips. Read More

My experience in teaching starts from me being an instructor for the chamber ensemble back in college. I became an instructor when the director came to me and asked if I was interested in becoming a music instructor. I always encouraged my students to practice everyday. By practicing every day then student will notice that they are progressing. If a student isn't progressing then I'm not doing my job. I encourage my students to enter any competition or recitals. By demonstrating ways to count out rhythms, clap beats and how to write in the counts, students will have a better understanding of how to approach rhythm. Teaching musicality is another important element in lessons. Students should have knowledge of dynamics, phrase structures and musical styles. In order to teach this, I have my students play a wide variety of solos from all style periods. I also encourage them to listen to the piece and often give them recordings and mini listening assignments. Read More

My collegiate teaching experience began at Concordia College, being a Teaching Assistant for a Brass Methods class, and fulfilling a similar teaching the same course at Central Michigan University. I will teach you and or your child based on the experience level. The more experienced my students are, the more I can discuss concepts of playing. After all, anyone can play exercises and music. But how we approach playing them is what makes us better. If the student is younger and less experienced, I will stick more to the basics of trumpet playing such as making a good sound and articulations. Read More
