I have been a professional teacher and musician for 30 years. As a young man I traveled all around the world on cruise ships playing shows. Then, I aggressively pursued a free-lance career as a jazz trumpeter in New York City. No two students are the same, and I try to take each student's strengths, goals and preferences into account when designing their custom curriculum. For brass, I devise custom exercises for the player in addition to using classic pedagogical texts such as the Arban's and Clarke books. For piano, I start students off with a combination of scale work and repertoire. All lessons with me will include learning a wide variety of repertoire as well as a fair bit of improvisation, as I believe it is an invaluable tool for developing ears, creativity and musical personality. While attending Los Angeles County High School for The Arts, I studied with jazz and trombone legends. Since moving to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music, I've been studying with masters from many different disciplines. Like Most trumpet players, I follow and believe in using essential trumpet books (Arbans, Clarke, Flexus, Schlossberg, etc) and use others that depend on the desires of the musician. For children and/or beginners, I incorporate a little keyboard, to help with some theory basics, since all the notes are laid out. I have always struggled with my musical interests differing from my teachers while growing, so I develop my lessons based on each student, and play music that will both incorporate the teachings of the lesson, and also play music that is enjoyable for them, as well as etudes, or anything they would like to work on.
