I started teaching trumpet in my Senior year of high school. As I contiued into college I learned a great deal from some of the best trumpet players in the world. I had the great pleasure of studying under Allen Vizzutti while completing my degree from the Univeristy of Washington. Gaining knowledge from great players only inspired me more to pass it onto ALL my students. Playing trumpet and making music have to be fun and enjoyable. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my junior year of high school. I first began providing private lessons to local children that attended the local middle school that I had also attended myself. Consistency is the most important thing that I have stressed to all of my students. Consistency in practicing is vital to training your lips, fingers, and lungs to match what you have in your mind. I have also found that younger students enjoy playing pop and jazz more than they enjoy classical pieces. Read More

I've been a teacher for 12 years and counting, on a range of subjects: languages (English as a second language, Chinese, and Japanese), writing, music and history, music theory (jazz), and performance (jazz and classical). As a trumpet instructor I have a wide range of repertoire and have studied under some of the top players in the world, including jazz greats Lester Bowie and Wynton Marsalis; I currently study with Joe Magnarelli. For beginning woodwind students, I have had success using the Rubank method books as a starter. Alongside a method book, I like to work on material chosen by the student, as well as my own supplemntal exercises. It is important for the student to understand the musical concepts associated with the repertoire, as well as focusing on performing well. I also prefer to have my students keep a practice log book, in order to track their progress. For piano and music theory, I like to use the John Thompson method for beginner students, and the Bastien Piano Literature series for more advanced students. I am a third-year undergrad at NYU, studying Music Education with a concentration in instrumental performanceand I love it! Currently, I am working on the last of my classwork before student teaching full time. I hope to graduate in May 2024 with a B.M. in Music Education and my NYSED pK-12 certification. I play clarinet with the NYU Wind Symphony, where I'm also Operations Manager, as well as the NYU Orchestra 2, Tisch New Theater pit orchestra, and as a soloist. Read More

Teaching has been a regular part of my life since my undergraduate days. At the University of Idaho, I had the opportunity to be a Learning Assistant for freshman music theory, aural skills, and jazz theory; a position that involved more actual teaching than the typical teaching assistantship. At this time, I also ran a private studio with around a dozen trumpet students. As part of my music education degree, I completed my student teaching at the high school level and find extreme joy from teaching groups of students. Read More

For a young child to love music, a teacher must introduce it to him or her in a passionate way, without forcing it one the child. The struggling student is just as capable of loving music, just as much as the accomplished one. As I mentioned earlier, all students learn at different paces, so I teach each student as close as humanly possible to their level. It is not important for a child to play like a professional musician, but to play like the student has put his or her heart into learning the music. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
