I also try to find solo repertoire for students based on their age and level of experience. Performing as a soloist is just as important as being in an ensemble. I have found that having a strong foundation in classical music sets the tone for musical excellence for all styles, regardless of age or musical maturity. For trumpet students, I rely heavily on the Arban method for the essentials and then add other materials depending on the student's goals.
