My teaching experience sates back to running trumpet sectionals (in Junior High High School) for an All Star Jazz Band in my home town. When I was 16 I started teaching younger trumpet students as well. I descovered early on that I had a passion for directing and teaching. This stayed with me, and I always have incorporated education into my directing and leadership styles as a perormer. As a Musical Director for Royal Caribbean I would regularly have to teach an hour long show to my international band in under an hour and a half.I know that learning an instrument is hard work and that motivation is key to success. Now fast-forward to March 2021, I was hired by Presidio ISD to teach middle school band. From then until May 2022, I got to teach middle school band along with choir and mariachi. I also occasionally helped at the local high school. What I have learned while teaching middle school, especially with beginners, is that playing along can be helpful initially. Teachers may use similar tools, as means to teach a lesson, but how those tools are used will vary from mentor to mentor, and student to student. I believe knowledge of fundamentals is a crucial part of understanding one's instrument and being able to wield it effectively, no matter the skill level. Read More

I like to give a brief history of the style and song to develop an emotional connection with the music being played.
