Now fast-forward to March 2021, I was hired by Presidio ISD to teach middle school band. From then until May 2022, I got to teach middle school band along with choir and mariachi. I also occasionally helped at the local high school. What I have learned while teaching middle school, especially with beginners, is that playing along can be helpful initially. My teaching experience sates back to running trumpet sectionals (in Junior High High School) for an All Star Jazz Band in my home town. When I was 16 I started teaching younger trumpet students as well. I descovered early on that I had a passion for directing and teaching. This stayed with me, and I always have incorporated education into my directing and leadership styles as a perormer. As a Musical Director for Royal Caribbean I would regularly have to teach an hour long show to my international band in under an hour and a half.I know that learning an instrument is hard work and that motivation is key to success.
