I work closely with my students to learn their musical interests and then establish their musical goals. I have my students keep a lesson assignment journal in a blank manuscript book, in which I also write playing tips, exercises and songs tailored to each student. I find that combining ear training while simultaneously developing the ability to read music only accelerates the learning process.
