I have over twenty years of experience in teaching public classes and private lessons. I have a great joy in discovering breakthrough moments where everybody can work together towards achieving their personal goals. Though it is true that every person is unique and different, it is always great where folks can get together and share the love that is music whether that be performing or simply sharing a tune with a loved one or neighbor. Depending on the skill level of the student, there are a number of different method books, solo literature, orchestral and band excerpts, and tools that I employ. Each student will need to purchase a metronome and tuner (the Korg brand tuner-metronome works great!), and come to each lesson prepared, and with a pencil! Read More

I am a friendly, calm teacher which is my style. I motivate my students a lot but do it in a positive way. All my students understand that they ultimately decide whether not they will have success or not, no one else. It is my job to guide you and to give you advice, but in the end the student must be the one who does the work. Students who think in this way usually do have the most success. Read More

I am passionate about my students and about music. From the outset of working with music students I emphasize the importance of good posture and handling of their instrument, good breathing technique, good embouchure, and regular practice in order to develop strong embouchure and technique and knowledge of their instrument. I love teaching! Whether it is music, dance, math, or anything else I may find myself teaching, I give my all to my students. Read More

Seeing my students succeed is one of the most gratifying things for me. Success in students can be measured in so many ways, and each individual will have different goals. My job is to match my students where they are at, and try to bring them to the next level. Working with individual students, I like to get the opinion of the student as to what they believe they want to work on, and use that an overlying theme for what we work on, as well as what I recommend. For beginning trombonists I like to start with the standard Hal Leonard Essential Elements book, which teaches all of the fundamentals of great trombone playing. As the student progresses I add in various etude books that teach technical ability, musicality, and facility on the instrument. I also assign a solo or two for the student to work on which applies all of the fundamentals listed before into a tangible piece of performed music. Read More
