Oftentimes I tailor lessons that ive created in my past to create lesson plans for individual students. I oftentimes use action research methods in helping me determine whether or not the teaching method that is being used in the lesson is effective for the student receiving lessons. I have a few method books that I like to use in my lessons. For brass students, I like the Rubank method books for beginners and the Arban book for advanced students. For young beginners on classical piano, I like "Music Tree," and the Faber "Piano Adventures" series, and for older kids I use the Bastien literature series. I taught my first lesson at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and I immediately I was drawn into teaching by the level of enthusiasm, open-mindedness, and desire to improve shown by the student. This student made rapid progress each week, and eventually was offered to go on an international tour with Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp the following year. I continued teaching when I attended the Manhattan School of Music as a graduate student, tutoring undergraduate students there, and once again I was drawn into the rapid progress and enthusiasm of each of the students tutored.
