For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Essential Elements of Band by Hal Leonard and Tradition of Excellence by Bruce Pearson and Ryan Nowlin. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce more advanced method books such as J.B. Arban: A Complete Method, and various etude books as well as solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. Read More

No two students are the same, and I try to take each student's strengths, goals and preferences into account when designing their custom curriculum. For brass, I devise custom exercises for the player in addition to using classic pedagogical texts such as the Arban's and Clarke books. For piano, I start students off with a combination of scale work and repertoire. All lessons with me will include learning a wide variety of repertoire as well as a fair bit of improvisation, as I believe it is an invaluable tool for developing ears, creativity and musical personality. For beginning students, I typically start with the Ed Sueta beginning trombone book (this is the book I learned from when I first started). Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. As a jazz musician, I can also instruct students on jazz improvisation, harmony, theory, composition, ear training, etc. No matter what the student is interested in, I will guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun. I spent my time at Rutgers collecting as much performance experience and brass pedagogy as possible in order to improve my own playing as well as my teaching. Read More

During lessons, I encourage the student at every possible point. Correcting and giving many points of success. The important essential for me is providing a steady stream of improvement with the study materials. What ever they may be, methods, ad hoc excercises, solos, and ensemble music. Read More

After that I worked at an electronic music studio in Hawthorne, N.Y.
