Each summer I volunteer at my local community music camp where I I teach a wide of variety of students who are touching an instrument for the very first time and students who simply want to improve on their skills. I tell students the same fundamental things that I think about while practicing which consists of regular practice and simply enjoying the music I’m playing. The first thing about learning an instrument is that it should be fun, it should never feel like a chore. Read More

I grew up in Gillette Wyoming playing Euphonium and Trombone, also achieving 4 years in the all state band. From there, I went to the University of North Texas, and my world grew so much larger. As the largest Euphonium studio in the world, I was blown out of the water at the ability level of the players around me. I achieved both a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Euphonium performance. No two students are the same, and I try to take each student's strengths, goals and preferences into account when designing their custom curriculum. For brass, I devise custom exercises for the player in addition to using classic pedagogical texts such as the Arban's and Clarke books. For piano, I start students off with a combination of scale work and repertoire. All lessons with me will include learning a wide variety of repertoire as well as a fair bit of improvisation, as I believe it is an invaluable tool for developing ears, creativity and musical personality. Teaching is a joy. The music is a gift and it is a blessing to share it with others. I enjoy seeing students learn and pick up music right in front of my eyes. Teaching is a learning experience for myself as well. I enjoy working with others and use my skills/experience to inspire others. I push students hard but also give rewards and bring a feeling of fun into lessons since music is supposed to be enjoyable. Read More
