However, the most beneficial learning occurs when the students feels they were an active participant in the discovery(ah-ha! moments). I always have the student start by developing a practice routine consisting of long tones, flexibility exercises, scales and the different tonguing attacks; single, double, legato and staccato. Next perhaps finding out what their interest are so we can pick out the appropriate materials.
