Teaching style is derived from my own techniques proven to develop the style and success needed to achieve. No method books or corny techniques are utilized. We don't use boring teaching method books, but formulate a concise direct approach to artistry. We will learn songs and style that the student will chose, then, incorporate all aspects of theory, scales, progressions as will as pedagogy to enhance not only the playing level of a student, but, a total and thorough understanding of music that will allow the student to progress to a professional level. I began teaching trombone and improvisation when I was a junior in High School. Currently I am adept in Singing, Music Theory, Trombone, Bass (-classical) and Electronic Music, but I also practice Flute, Piano, Guitar,Percussion (congas) and Tap Dancing. I have been told that I have a very unconventional teaching style, but I prefer to call it simplicity. Patience is a virtue that I cherish, but I am also very persistent in teaching the ultimate realization to my student. Read More

Throughout my teaching career, I have been guided by three principles: 1) In music education, "music" is the adjective and "education" is the noun. It is most important to educate the student *through* music, with the ultimate aim of "teaching them to teach themselves", so that they can enjoy a life of learning in music. 2) Care about the student as an individual. No student advances unless they are working with a teacher who truly CARES about them as individuals as well as their musical progress. Read More

I have spent the past three years living in Miami where I completed my Masters Degree in music education. During this time I was an active trumpet player in south Florida playing with orchestras, brass bands, jazz groups, and quite regularly latin bands due to the popularity of salsa/latin styles in that region. My Bachelors degree was completed in 2006 at the Univeristy of Delware. I completed their music teacher preparation program, participating in both educational studies and a wide range of music ensembles including wind band, brass choir, marching band, and jazz band. When I'm working with a student, I want to know everything I can about them as a person; this will inform their growth as a musician, artist and music lover. I am to set realistic expectations for my students, aiming not to frustrate but to celebrate every step taken. In the end, if students can teach themselves and want to learn more about their instrument or any sort of music, I feel like I've done my job. Read More

For the past 4 years, I have been at Seton Hall University studying to become proficient in Contemporary Trumpet and to possess solid skills in the collection of all other brass and woodwind instruments in order to teach music. I am fully qualified and most of my teaching experience comes from my students and teaching music within my church. While student teaching I taught all instrumental music classes for grades 8 9.I also collaborated on curriculum and exam development, met with students upon request, graded all written work and oral playing tests, and created lesson plans. I have taught both middle school and high school band where I have worked with students on a variety of instruments at many different levels. I've found that students always are capable of more than they believe. Encouraging regular practice and finding music that makes the students want to practice is most important. If a student isn't enjoying their lesson, I'm not doing my job! I am always finding ways to keep my students motivated to learn. Read More
