Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Euphonium French Horn Tuba

As an educator, I am flexible, patient, positive and fun-loving, and strive to engage each and every student. I want each student to move at a pace that is comfortable for them, and want to ensure that there are no learning gaps or plateaus in understanding of content before encouraging a student to move on. I love when a student leaves a lesson with a smile on their face and when they are truly having fun with music- I know I did my job well. Read More

I am an outgoing, creative, and passionate individual seeking to advance and utilize the arts, education, and culture, mainly to ameliorate the issues facing disadvantaged communities. I am currently living and working in Boston. From 2020 to 2024 I taught general music with Open Door Art, an affiliate of the Seven Hills Foundation. Open Door Arts is a nonprofit organization which partners teaching artists with BPS (Boston Public Schools) to provide supplementary art educational programs for special need students. Read More

Instruments: Trombone Euphonium

I love to instill a love and curiosity of the trombone, music, and life in my students. I give my students listening assignments every week in addition to their practice assignments so that they may experience all of the various idioms the trombone is used in. My favorite moments in teaching are those when the student is able to answer their own questions and use the concepts they've learned to reach their own solutions. Read More

It depends on the age of the student, but there are plenty of method books and pieces that can both teach a student music theory and notation, as well as their performance skill. With beginners its perfect to start with the Rubank series from Beginner-Intermediate. Many students are given the "Standard of Excellence" series by their school teacher and that series works as well. I believe these books are a great start, but can get old fast. Read More

Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Euphonium Tuba Music

All of my students follow more or less a similar path that deviates a bit once they have developed some. No matter the age I start all students off with building fundamentals of tone, flexibility, articulation, and range. I use a combination of exercises from David Vining, UNC's own Buddy Baker, and Emory Remington. While building fundamental playing skills I will have students begin playing etudes. Younger students will start in their band method books, but as time goes on they will transition into Rochut's Melodious etudes, and the Rubank method books. Read More

In the summer of 2022, he served as an artist fellow in the Atlantic Music Festival, giving varied performances in orchestral, chamber and solo settings. To fuse his dedication to performance with his interest in academic research, Tommy also presented a full lecture recital in the recent conference on cultural assimilation in music hosted by the University of Calgary. Furthermore, an equally devoted performer on the euphonium, he has been invited to play with the New England Brass Band and has been performing with the Boston University Wind Ensemble on an assistantship since 2021. I love teaching beginners of any age including special needs students. Most importantly, I will help you learn to play the music you LOVE and stay motivated. I specialize in Adult Beginners and am happy to teach students aged 9 to 109! I worked as a professional musician in New York City for several years and played in numerous Salsa bands, a Ska band—and small classical groups.    I also led a group called The Triple Trouble Trombone Trio and a 12 piece Salsa band called “Profundo” as well as a 9 piece Salsa/Middle Easter R&B Hybrid band called “Havana Gila” Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
