My approach is always to make music first. Yes I like to teach how to play "correctly" and all the "right" notes, but at the end of the day there is something bigger to take from music. Music moves people and it is my job as a teacher to show my students that beauty. The point of the lesson is to teach the student how to practice the materials and better themselves. I just want to see my students try, that is most important to me. At a younger age, I like to explore music they might already know or recognize from some form of media. Read More

My professional experience includes trumpet with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and the Fabulous Fifties Big Band. My professional teaching experience started in 1986 with teaching students one-on-one. My students have achieved lifelong skills on piano, brass, woodwind, and guitar. I teach in my studio and I travel to family homes. I teach classical, jazz, and gospel music styles. Combining instruction with performance and additional auditions will compliment any student's music experience. Read More

I began teaching private students while in college through a music store in Ellicott City, MD. I taught students from age 6 to 15. I had up to 15 students on varied occasions. I maintained students on and off throughout my 7 years of music teaching in public schools following graduating from college, but lost many students when I relocated from Baltimore to Lancaster. I am hoping to network and develop a studio of students again. Read More

For my beginning students I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Then we move to the "Arban" book and eventually start working on solo rep. Another thing I like to implement is the breathing gym, which not only helps as a musician but can also assure you having clear lungs! I usually try to do fun things for example if my student is young I ask them whats their favorite pop song and I usually arrange it or find an arrangement and spend a lesson doing that, or even teaching them to learn it by ear. I'm adamant about learning exercises from the "Arbans Book". This book is essential the brass bible that teaches proper fundamental techniques while developing reading skills. We will extensively on flexibility and scales through out all stages of development as well as intonation on the instrument. I am also really detailed about developing ear training to identify notes with out use of music and vice versa. A complete musician can both read and use his trained ear. Read More
