Instruments: Piano Saxophone
I wholeheartedly believe that the best ingredient for passion is joy. I want all of my students to be enjoying themselves not only during our lessons, but in the practice room as well. As a result I try to keep my lessons incredibly individualized. I learn about my students, what are their favorite styles of music? Favorite songs or bands? I believe there is no wrong starting point in one's musical journey. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Mallet Percussion
For younger students, I believe in the importance of solidifying technique and understanding of the piano along with developing an excitement for music. With older students, I guide the lessons based on their interests. I believe strongly in the importance of ear training for students of all ages to provide a deeper understanding of the music. It was because of this grant that I was able to attend the Boston University Tanglewood Institute for Saxophone Performance, where I took lessons and studied with some of the North Shore's greatest saxophonists, such as Ken Radnofsky and Jennifer Bill. For several years in a row, I have attended the Massachusetts Music Educators Association conference and took a variety of different masterclasses centered around education and musicianship. In the future, I would like to return to college to get a Master's Degree in Music Education, and continue to take inspiration from the music educators before me. Read More

I like listening to the student and determining where their skill level best would fit in with my curriculum. From there, I will formulate a lesson plan that will not only have the student steadily progressing through the lesson material by using instrumental method books that encourage growth at their current skill level, but I will also introduce solo repertoire materials that help the student establish themselves as an individual musical creator and artist! Of course, every student is different, and an integral part of my philosophy involves getting to know each student so that I may learn their creative preferences, strengths, and weaknessness. I do not shy away from books, I do indeed enjoy working out of the Hal Leonard collection because I appreciate the step by step structure. This may apply less to guitar, however, if the student's primary ambitions are to learn songs by Green Day or The Beatles, etc. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Music
One of the single most important thing a student can do is to listen. Method books and etudes are great, but it's important for students of all ages to have a frame of reference for what they want to achieve. Once we both know what a student wants to achieve, I'll gather a series of repertoire for them. For beginners, I start with just the mouthpiece, so they understand how to have and maintain a good embouchure before they start with the rest of the saxophone. Read More

I am a life-long musician [age 5 - present] from a family of musicians who have played with everyone from Fanny Brice (my grandfather) to Benny Goodman (my mother) to Steve Miller (myself). I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston , MA from 1975-1979 and left (5 weeks short of my degree) to perform in a rock band who toured for 5 years in the US and Canada. Having played everywhere from Red Rocks Ampitheatre in Colorado to Elkhorn Resort in Sun Valley, Idaho to Valdez, Alaska to Cobo Hall in Detroit,Michigan, I have lengthy performance credentials and even more varied experience in the styles and situations that I have performed in that include: rock band, orchestra, concert band, jazz combo, folk duo, Big Band, marching band, drum corps, celtic rock band, traditonal gaelic ceili, flute choir, pit band, church choir, chorus, show choir, vocal solo, commercial voice-overs, vocal duet, musical theatre, etc. Read More
