I love to see my students engaged and interested in their instruments and music in general. I do my best to convey my own passion for my instrument and for music to the student with enthusiasm. I want the students to be inspired and motivated to practice and learn, so I make sure to give him or her plenty of encouragement and positive feedback whenever possible. This is very important especially in the early stages of learning an instrument. Read More

Ive been teaching private lessons for about 5 years at this point and I have really seen how my method for teaching as been rewarding for my students. For beginning woodwind students, I have had success using the Rubank method books as a starter. Alongside a method book, I like to work on material chosen by the student, as well as my own supplemntal exercises. It is important for the student to understand the musical concepts associated with the repertoire, as well as focusing on performing well. I also prefer to have my students keep a practice log book, in order to track their progress. For piano and music theory, I like to use the John Thompson method for beginner students, and the Bastien Piano Literature series for more advanced students. Read More

My teaching style matches the personality of the student. I can vary my lesson from high energy to calm and sensitive. As an previous elementary school music teacher to 3000 students, I have the ability to read a student and find the most effective way to teach immediately. When it is appropriate, I enjoy teaching in the Orff-Schulwerk approach to music education, which means making music through movement, speech, play, and creativity. Read More

For beginners, I focus on building a strong foundation in technique. We delve into the fundamentals of the instrument, ensuring a solid grasp of essential skills. But it's not all about drills and exercises; I introduce these concepts in a manner, making learning enjoyable and accessible. For advanced students, our journey takes on a different flavor. My teaching experience dates back in college. I never thought that teaching would be a passion of mine until I began teaching privately 7 years ago. The first question I like to ask my students is what inspired you to play the saxophone and what are their overall goals. Where do they want to reach and strive for when playing their desired instrument? Based on the students' goals, I will gear my instruction towards my the needs and desires of the student and give them the best experience possible I began teaching students from my church who were eager to learn the saxophone. I would best describe my teaching style as "Learn how to have fun playing music, simply." I am thankful for being blessed with an ability to hear how my student plays and quickly and accurately prescribe a simple fix to get over hurdles. Sometimes all it takes is looking at things a different way to realize something and clear up confusion. Just like in life, sometimes with music all it takes is your teacher saying something a different way or helping you look at the music from a different angle. Read More
