For beginning students, I typically start with the method book that the child is given by the school Music teacher, making certain that they are at least adequately prepared to play their assigned studies (or pages) for their school Music lesson. I also incorporate playing the Duets provided in that volume, along with the students. I then suggest that they purchase other necessary methods, duets and solos at their local Music Store(s), as they progress, and they will therefore require more advanced Musical materials than that used at their school. Nothing is more rewarding as an instructor than watching a student develop a passion for learning, as it can be endlessly beneficial to them in not just music, but all aspects of their life. Setting both attainable short and long-term goals for each student instills an eagerness to learn more, and also allows each student to develop at their own pace. Properly rewarding the student when they achieve their goals helps further instill this love of learning. Read More

It is very important to me that each student is having fun, and enjoying the process of learning the saxophone. Students will always have the opportunity to bring their own music/projects into our lessons, in addition to the work we will do on the fundamentals, technique, tone production, etc. We will cover all areas of the saxophone, and music to produce a highly educated musician and performer. With an understanding of a students level, goals, and passions, I will be able to formulate a plan for the student to be proficient in all areas of the instrument. Read More

My relationship with music making began at the age of 7 when I begrudgingly agreed to take piano lessons at the nudging of my parents. In the first lesson, my teacher taught me the theme from The Simpsons, and I was sold. It would be years before I would actually become competent at turning notes on a page into something musically expressive, but that day I went home knowing I had found something special, and that inertia has carried me to where I am today. Ive always enjoyed teaching. I think its important to share the knowledge that Ive gained, studying and working as a professional musician. I'm 27 years old and has been teaching for around 8 years. I went to school at Conservatory Van Amsterdam in Holland and The New School of Jazz in New York. I'm originally from Copenhagen Denmark, but I have toured all over Europe performed in Asia and The states, I've been lucky that music has taken me to different places. Read More

I like to make music learning a self-engaged process. Students will keep track of their assignments, make some of the decisions about what music to play, and be expected to practice a minimum of 5 or 6 days per week. Students are sometimes reluctant to have discipline at first, but once they realize that they are making fast progress and overcoming musical challenges, they tend to have a great time. I have had parents of middle schoolers tell me that the structure music lessons have brought to their students' lives has made a huge difference in other areas. Read More

I'm all about bringing positive vibes into what I teach! I love music and I bring that love into everything I teach. My goal is to always make sure the student feels comfortable, feels heard, and feels prepared for anything I may throw at them. Music is a living experience and I believe as a teacher you need to bring that energy every time you teach. I make sure every student feels accomplished from everything I ask of them, I'm considerate in my instruction, and I make sure every assignment I give is feasible for the student's level. Read More
