I have been teaching people to sing for over 20 years.Originally, I am from the UK but for the last 7 years I have been teaching in Freehold NJ. I have converted my garage into a "high tech" teaching and recording studio. As a working vocalist, I am very aware of the importance of taking care of one's voice. It is my instrument and I treat it with the same care and I respect as I would any other instrument. Read More

My teaching style is to set a weekly goal for each student, in terms of music learning. It can be one or two songs per week, but the goal is to first learn all the necessary chords, then to learn the rhythm or the song and lastly to learn how to sing the song if they want to. The brain needs time and repeated training to be able to assimilate and learn that, and after each of these three parts are practiced separately then they start to be done together, and then it starts getting into an automatic's mode. My teaching experience actually began when I was a teenager, when I taught my little brother drum set; he became adept enough to form his own rock band when he was a teen! I have been performing for over 40 years. I started my teaching career over 15 years ago.Drums have been my life, and it gives me great pleasure to introduce these skills to young people and adults, and help them express themselves and become proficient, confident drummers.. This is because in my seven years of teaching I have observed that much of what students struggle with is habitual tension, whether physical or psychological. Therefore, it doesn't matter what kind of music a student wants to sing as long as they approach the material from a relaxed and grounded place physically and mentally. My students will not only take consistent lessons (properly customized to what they need to learn that month, week, or session) but they will actively seek out opportunities to perform what they have learned in a public setting. Hello everyone! My name is Jake. I am recent graduate of Syracuse University, where I received my BM in Voice Performance. This fall, I will begin my MM in Voice at Boston Conservatory. My aspirations are to become as successful as I can in the music business, particularly in opera. While I am still very young, I have been fortunate enough to work with conductors such as Christian Capocaccia and Larry Loh, and have worked with several wonderful singers at Syracuse Opera. So I typically take a very relaxed approach during the first few lessons, to get the student to loosen up and feel comfortable, all while observing the student in order to assess their strengths and weaknesses, and figure out what types of music the student is interested in making. Then I can tailor their future lessons so that their goal of playing that type of music is never forgotten, or overshadowed by lots of "exercises" they feel aren't fun. Read More

I truly believe that its never too late to start, and anything is possible. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing people develop a passion for music. The biggest gift we can give our students is an education that is student-centered. In order for students to learn, they must be involved in their own education and have a say in what they are learning and how they learn and demonstrate that learning. Read More
