Lessons will be tailored to each student's interests and goals. I will encourage strong foundation skills - such as tone, articulation, scales and basic theory, for a short example - for those aspects are very important. Whether the student wishes to incorporate those skills a Broadway Musical Show Book or to prepare themselves for success in school band, district band, or school auditions I am happy to help students find the fun in music!
I am an enthusiatic teacher/performer who comes from a family of trained musicians. I enjoy sharing my real world and professional experience in music with the students i instruct. I began my training at an early age bring apprenticed in voice and learning the basics of teaching music in a classroom enviornment. after many years of study, I graduated from Carirn University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible and Music Education. While in university my main focus was on vocal training, but I never gave up my love for woddwinds and brass instruments either. In the last 25 years I've had the priviledge of performing all over the US and Europe as a soloist and in numerous groups.
I like to teach without books as much as possible as I feel it allows the student to internalize musical concepts better. The book series I use however is the Rubank method books. These have easy fundamental exercises to help keep the chops in shape and to work on reading music. I also recommend students buy sheet music of music they like(assuming it is at their playing level) and will happily work on it with them.
I am a very energetic and passionate musician. I have been directing bands in the Baltimore and Annapolis area for over 15 years. I have worked with students of all ages and levels. As a band director, I have learned the intricacies and teaching methods for all wind instruments. I currently direct lower, middle and upper school bands at the Severn School. I am a jazz musician at heart and have sung and played trumpet professionally in a dixieland jazz group for the past 13 years and counting.
I knew I was going to become a music teacher at the age of ten, so I absolutely understand how much of an impact teachers have on students from a young age. I have been teaching larger ensembles for most of my college years, but have had private students around my school schedule for many years. Finding what motivates the student is key. If the student isn't motivated or doesn't care, then I need to change something! I'm very good and listening and understanding students needs. I would love to see all of my students performing for others because they are so excited about what they are doing!

Your saxophone teacher will concentrate on developing a nice tone in all registers, using proper embouchure, correcting breathing and posture, and improving techniques involving manual dexterity. If you are interested in a particular style, we can match you with an instructor who has experience teaching that genre.
Our recommended starting age for saxophone lessons is age 8 or 9. Most school music programs have students start playing saxophone with the band when they are in 4th or 5th grade. The student needs to be big enough to be able to appropriately hold the instrument with the aid of a neck strap, and have the lung capacity to blow properly.
It is never too late to begin sax! We have many students who begin as adults. Our teachers have experience working with all ages and can work with you whether you are a beginner just looking to gain exposure or advanced player looking to improve.
Musika offers customized one-on-one music lessons at your home - a time saving solution for busy parents and students. A beginner saxophonist should begin by renting. Reliable models include Yamaha, Jupiter, and Selmer. In addition to renting a sax, students will need to buy reeds to play. New players should start with a softer reed, either a 1.5 or a 2. Musika suggests consulting your teacher before buy reeds in bulk.

My daughter began learning sax in her school band, but she didn't begin PLAYING sax until she started lessons with Debra. From scales and exercises to actual pieces, Debra coached my daughter with real insight, sensitivity, and patience. Her knowledge of the instrument and feeling for music - along with her easy-going,"kid friendly" personality - make Debra the ideal teacher and musical mentor.

My son enjoys his viola lesson each week with Martina. She is disciplined in her approach to teaching but always makes my son's learning experience enjoyable. She knows how to challenge him and develop excellent form. Martina is always punctual and professional. We both highly recommend her as an instructor.

Travis rocks. My 7-year-old son and I both take lessons with him. Travis has moved me off the plateau I was on with lessons that focus on theory and technique. And for my son, he's been able to instill a desire and interest that were missing when he previously took piano lessons. With Travis teaching us, the limits are the ones we impose on ourselves. Needless to say, Travis himself plays a mean guitar to boot!

Giorgi has made learning cello even more fun. From the sympathetic, "It is hard" to the precise, "Be careful about the curve of the thumb" he has strengthened learning in every lesson, without being overwhelming. He started playing a little duet on only the 3rd lesson or so, which made me feel, even as a beginner, that I'm already starting to make (occasionally screachy) music. He has suggested a variety of drills and practice techniques which have also sped up the process a lot. And he has a good sense of humor and surprising amount of patience.

Rebecca has been super with my son! He is 8yrs old and has mild aspergers. He has never played an instrument before but after one lesson with his teacher he could keep a beat on his drums. She is able to keep his attention and really makes it fun! She is flexible and easy going. I highly recommend her for any lessons. Very nice teacher! Thank you Rebecca for your outstanding service!!

"Mr. Richard has been absolutely perfect for our very active two boys. He has been an excellent fit for gauging and keeping their interest far beyond what we had imagined. Our boys actually argue over who gets to go first. Mr. Richard knocks it out of the park when it comes to exceeding our expectations"

Lindsey has been coming to our house to give saxophone lessons to our 12 year old daughter for about a month. She is an absolute joy. She is extremely knowledgeable, flexible with her schedule, and my daughter thinks she is "fun" and "cool". We would highly recommend her to anyone wanting music lessons. A+

Mr. Lou M. is a God-send! With the various needs that our organization requires from our education partners in order to provide enrichment services to our students, Mr. Lou M. has always gone above and beyond in meeting all of those needs. Our students are learning, our caregivers are happy and satisfied, and we couldn't be more pleased with his performance.

Angela is a phenomenal teacher. She is full of charisma and is a joy to work with. Most of my experience with her has been focused on working in the Alexander Technique and she seems very knowledgeable in this study. I would highly recommend her to any prospective student. I have seen myself improve dramatically in a few short weeks with her guidance (and much practice of course!)
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
