Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet

In college I took a woodwind pedagogy class because I wanted to focus my teaching on my primary instruments rather than a general knowledge of music. Progression is my primary goal for each student. When my students grow, I grow. It is imperitive that each student remembers that growth is an individualized thing. I first encourage my students to set goals. Knowing what my student has an interest in doing/becoming will help me understand better how to pace the lessons. I always encourage consistent practice and acknowledging each student's accomplishment helps drive the student's desire to want to progress. Read More

It is very important to me for students to have fun in lessons. That's my number one priority! Students who are enjoying playing their instrument are more likely to stick with it. My passion for music shines through in private lessons when I focus all of my energy on the one student. Watching the student grow and succeed is one of the greatest things about teaching. I am able to figure out what a student likes very quickly and use that to connect with them. Read More

In 2008 I graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. During my ungraduate years I studied classical saxophone with Dale Underwood and was selected as a soloist with the university's concert band on two occassions. Read More
