From the beginning phase, I figure out over the long-term what your student is motivated by and create a lesson plan around it. Some students like to compose their own songs and record them. Some like to write sheet music on the computer. Some love the enjoyment of the next challenging song on sheet music. I believe it is imperative a teacher has a malleable customizable approach for every student because we all have different personalities and preferences. Read More

My teaching experience dates back 11 years ago, where I started working for a company similar to this one that allowed me to grow and from there I went on to working for a number of music academies and even co-owning 2 of them. I worked as a school band director, a worship band director, a music instructor for children with special needs and I was the curriculum creator for the music education firm I ran with my business partner back in Puerto Rico. I enjoy seeing my students grow and I understand that patience is the key to success. I move at the pace of the student and I love to motivate my students to be great. Everybody learns differently and I take notice of that. I will run my lessons based on the student's strength and effectively develop the students weaknesses. I am fun to work with! Read More

I like my students to bring a small notebook, so that they may write their homework down, and any practice assignments. I expect my students to keep a practice log of how much time they practice per week, in between lessons. I always insist that setting goals and expectations for them, is very important, as well as keeping track of whether they themselves are staying on task. I try and incorporate different ways of practicing or playing music, so that even practicing turns into being fun and exciting and doesn't feel like a chore. Read More

By letting students practice how to improvise, students will learn not only the instrument itself, but also start to build a concept of ear-training, as well as music theory. To me, the music comes first than the music theory, which is why music theory always serves people's ear. I would have students learn how to play and hear chords, create a musical vocabulary and enjoy themselves. After letting them hear music, I will explain why they are hearing what they are hearing instead of letting them read it from a chart and not explaining why. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing ome of my students develop a passion for Music beacuse it really is the gift that keeps on giving. The more time you put into it the more you are rewarded. I will always try to find out what inspires the Student so that I can successfully tailor my instruction and help devlop their own path of Musical development and Musical growth. For younger students a more traditional approach is recommended ( John Thompsom Piano books-Scales studies-Hanon etc.,) as well as bacis Musicanship skills 101 learning to read Music ( Lines spaces both F Clef and G Clef) Key signatures-Form ( Repeat signs-codas) Clefs signs Read More

I use the Rubank method of books as a traditonal conservatory approach to early progression. I find their systematic flow efficient and effective to consistent improvement. We would then move to fulfilling repertoire that would qualify the student for collegiate study and competitive performance. For those interested in jazz, pop, and rock, we would proceed to study several instruction books and recorded material that over the years I have found to successfully progress a student in those genres.
