For all of my students, our first lessons will be focused on either setting a foundation for beginning musicians or finding what the student wants to work on to become a better musician. In my opinion, the most important foundational aspect of being a musician is developing a passion for music. No matter what level my student is at, we will work on having an appreciation for music. I typically divide my lessons into quarters so that the first part is just scale work. The second part is scale patterns and technique. The third portion is prepared materials, and the final portion is listening. I bring an Ipod with close to 750,000 songs on it for kids to choose pieces featuring their own instruments for inspirational purposes. The most important aspect of teaching music is to keep the student excited and engaged! I want my students to be eager to learn. I keep all lessons fun and casual, but stress the importance of hard work. I always encourage daily practice sessions, even if just for 15 - 20 minutes. Repetition is key! I discuss our goals for the lessons (what do you want to get out of the lesson? why do you want to learn saxophone?) and strive to meet our goals. Read More

I don't believe there is one absolute method and encourage my students to find whatever sparks musical joy in them, so I can help them pursue that. I can learn so much as a teacher by being shown what makes other people creatively stimulated. This is one my favorite parts about teaching! I can provide the knowledge and exercises to build a strong musical foundation, but it is up to the student to use these skills to express their own musicality and to access all the of the music they love on a deeper level. Upon completion of this run in Vermont, Anthony relocated to Chicago, Illinois. He has since been highly active in the Musical Theatre scene; typically having a full schedule of performances in a variety of theaters, such as Music Theater Works, Metropolis, Porchlight and Drury Lane. Anthony has also become a member of the band “Mike Flood & Co.” is the current Secretary/ Treasurer of the TMA Chicago Chapter and serves as woodwind coach for the CYSO. Read More
