I had a wonderful opportunity to start teaching piano at the same place that I took piano throughout high school KD Music Arts, about 8 years ago. Since then, Ive taught piano and voice to students a variety of ageskids and adults! I love arranging my younger students favorite songs that they hear on the radio so they can play them on the piano, sometimes even playing rhythm video games on my Nintendo 3DS to brush up on their music theory skills :) I want my students to finish a lesson feeling like the possibilities that they have with music are endless. For beginning students I believe it's important for them to begin playing the first day. I get the students to make their first sound and teach the technique and theory as they learn their instrument. For beginning voice students I use the same method, but I like to use a song that the student knows. For students with experience I like to have them play or sing something they know and I evaluate that and I will work with them on that song and build their technique. Read More

I have experience coaching chamber groups, performing and running groups, as well as teaching both musical and non-musical subjects at a variety of levels, including one-on-one tutoring. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I graduated with my Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance from Oberlin Conservatory in 1986. While there, I studied with Richard Miller, regarded by many as one of the greatest voice teachers of the 20th century. Millers books on singing are now standard texts in music schools all over the world. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for the student at each lesson, taking small steps to achieve larger goals.
