I first began the art of teaching when I was in college teaching Chemistry. I know it may sound like it is not related, but teaching one subject helps you teach another! I led group Chemistry classes and continue to this day teaching chemistry to the high school and college level. However, after a full year of intense piano studies practicing 3-4 hours daily and studying under my 3 teachers, I felt finally ready to take on students in April of 2016. Read More

I see every lesson as a collaborative effort between teacher and student, and I always strive to create an engaging and positive environment, where students feel encouraged and motivated to advance their musical skills. For some, this may mean selecting a piece of music that is of particular interest to the student (perhaps even one of their own compositions), and tailoring exercises to work towards specific goals for that piece. When teaching I always discuss the interest the student has first. I can adjust to any method of teaching. Once we establish their goals, I make suggestions of various ideologies. I prefer to create the lessons weekly, and use the idea of theory, harmony, melody and rhythm as a building block in order to enable a student to move at their own pace. I start a student from the point where they are in terms of theory. Read More

One of the unique experiences I offer is the opportunity to try multiple instruments in a single lesson. Whether its drums, piano, guitar, bass, saxophone, or even music production, students can discover what truly excites and motivates them. I believe music is like a language. Once you understand its core principles, you gain the freedom to express yourself across different instruments. My goal is to help each student build that strong foundation, then guide them as they dive deeper into mastering the instrument that speaks to them most. Read More

For younger beginning students, I typically use a method book, such as Accent on Achievement or something similar. For older beginners, I typically use the Rubank beginner's book. With this book, the student learns the fundamentals for their instrument. Once the student demonstrates an understanding of this, we will move on to sheet music. For more advanced students, we will typically use an etude book like Klose to explore the technical aspects of musical performance (such as technique development, phrasing, dynamics, etc.). Read More

First and foremost, I endeavor to contribute to a students' personal development, regardless of whether or not they intend to pursue music their entire lives. I hope to educate audiences as well as musicians, and ultimately, I want to share my love of music with as many people as I can! I love it when students have ideas about specific songs they want to learn or draw inspiration from, and use their interests to individually tailor their lessons. Read More

When I teach students I prefer to keep them organized on a seasonal basis; setting goals for the long term and the short term so that the student is busy and occupied. Every student has a different approach to learning and it is important to develop a plan that works for every student. I usually recommend that students keep track of their practising in a journal so that they can reflect on their goals and development. Read More
