For my beginning students who are children, I typically start with Standard Of Excellence. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Once the student gets in track, I start introducing more advanced book such Rubank, J.H Luft, H.Klose and Feerling. For adults and more advanced students, most likely I develop a custom guide and protocol based on what their focus of interest is. Once the student has advanced to where I can see that they have a good grasp of the fundamentals of the instrument, that is typically when I begin to introduce solo repertoire and supplement with my own material.
