Instruments: Saxophone Music
I started playing saxophone when I was 7 years old. Now I have more than 20 years of performance experience. I have both a bachelors degree from Xian Conservatory of Music in classical music and a masters degree from California Institute of Arts in jazz. I can play all kinds of music and make a good balance between classical music and jazz music. In China, I have participated in many orchestras and held the position of chief saxophone player. Instruments: Trumpet Saxophone Flute Clarinet
With beginning students, I start with the fundamentals of the instrument, including embouchure and finger technique, as well as the ability to breathe properly, which is fundamental to playing any wind instrument. I also introduce beginning students to basic musical concepts, such as reading music, and tailor the musical selection to their tastes or to whatever group they are playing in, most often a school band class. For more advanced students, I observe what areas the student needs the most work in and tailor the lessons specifically to dealing with those areas, as well as catering to their individual musical tastes. My love for music started at the age of 7 when my mom enrolled me in a piano lesson. I continuously played the piano and there was a point that I also studied the organ to be able to play as an organist in our church. When I was in high school, my interest shifted towards guitar because of the surge of battle of the bands and I luckily became part of our high school band as a lead guitarist. Read More

I always try to teach the student how to improvise, because I think that improvisation is the heart of music, is where you can learn how to express yourself instantly. I encourage a continuity in the practice, it doesn't have to be 3 hours a day, it could even de 20 minutes a day, as long as you develop a discipline for it. I also use my own material that will fit the level and skills of my current student, in addition to exisitng repertoire. Read More

I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Read More
