My teaching style is completely based around being down to earth with the student and to make sure that they are comfortable with the learning process. A student will be guided, not forced to apply themselves and be an active part of their musical growth. If a student begins to lose interest on a given piece of music we will assess what is not working and make sure to continue in a new direction that will keep them engaged. Read More

I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in May 2013 with a degree in jazz studies. While at UNC I studied jazz music as well as classical music. I'm very excited about teaching beginning and intermediate improvisers my own systematic approach to jazz improvisation. I'm also excited about teaching saxophone technique to beginning and intermediate saxophonists. I also teach beginning piano. Read More

My lessons are structured with attention paid to the fundamentals of each instrument and the fundamentals of music. I have learned that when a student practices a mistake over and over it remains a mistake. I immediately slow the student down and concentrate on just a measure or even two notes to accomplish correct rhythm, fingerings, articulations and phrasing. When the student can successfully play a passage correctly then the work turns into fun music making. Read More

I am a strong believer in being passionate about things and sharing them with other people, which is why I am teaching music. I studied music education on the saxophone at Stephen F Austin State University and have been the lead of and taught within many different ensembles. I attended the NASA(National American Saxophone Alliance) conference in 2014 in Chicago, IL at Illinois State University School Of Music. I've seen and met some of the best saxophonists alive, who my professor learned from. Read More

I always explore different methods that might fit the age and personality of the student but for keyboard lessons I have found success with the Alfred Piano Method. Instrumental lessons usually follow the method book that is selected by their school band director. Beyond that I have a large library of supplementary music to expand the students interest with new styles and composers.I'm very flexible with the method books and after I get to know the student I can select a method that would work the best for instruction. I like to think I'm a laid-back kind of guy, though I can get loud and boisterous sometimes when a student figures something hard out. I wonder sometimes if I don't get more excited about a student's breakthrough than he does! My wife sometimes tells me I have no "indoor voice," lol. I don't give grades (except for my college students, because I have to), but if I did, the grade would be either "A" or "I," as in incomplete, as in do it over until it's great. Read More
