My teaching philosophy revolves around one core principle: the joy of musical growth. While technical proficiency is essential, my main goal is to ensure that every student relishes the journey of becoming a better musician. I firmly believe that the more you enjoy the process, the more motivated you become to excel. I emphasize your unique musical taste in my teaching approach because I understand that your personal connection to the material is a powerful motivator. Read More

Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet Mallet Percussion

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with a method book (my method book preference varies depending on the instrument). At the early stages, the fundamentals of music are essential. My philosophy of music is that any student is capable of achieving anything they want, as long as they put their mind to it and they work hard. I started playing the saxophone in second grade; however, there were basic fundamentals that I was still learning in college. Read More

Instruments: Piano Saxophone Clarinet Music Keyboard

I always want to help my students understand the basics of music and universal principles that can apply to any music they are interested in learning. Whether it's jazz, pop, classical, blues, most styles of music share these principles in common and are best played when the musician can understand the underlying structures. Rather than having students memorize one piece that they'll forget as soon as they move onto the next, I want my students to have the skills to play any music they like any time by helping them develop their ear. Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet Recorder

I believe that lessons should be catered towards the unique musical goals of the individual. I take pride in finding new ways to teach proper fundamentals and habits in new students, that will ensure long-term success on their instrument, and allow them to explore whichever avenue in music they wish to pursue. For students interested in learning jazz, I emphasize ear training and rhythmic feel, while introducing more advanced theory and technical studies. Read More

I like my lessons to be fun! I like to start my lesson with a "music swap": we each play one minute of a song that we found that week from youtube or spotify and take 30-60 seconds to say why we found it interesting or inspiring (it can be any genre). We then aim to discuss and practice a new technical skill and use exercises to develop it, we work on a song from the method series or a song that the student wants to work on (I often transpose pop/rock songs for my students), and then rhythm training, ear training, and music theory concepts are interspersed throughout. I have been teaching since 1990.I like to keep lessons light-hearted, engaging, and fun. I believe that the most important lesson a student can learn is to love and enjoy playing music. Once this is accomplished the rest is easy! Students who learn to love playing an instrument enjoy practicing, progress rapidly, and continue to play music throughout their lives.I work with various band methods, tailored for each student'sindividual skill level and personal needs. Instruments: Saxophone

My main priority as an educator is to keep music fun and enjoyable while you progress on a path towards mastery of an instrument. Music is an art and a discipline, but it's purpose has always been to provide entertainment, share feelings, incite dance, and accompany celebration. To retain that passion for music while you learn, the focus has to always be on sound, not concepts. You should hear yourself often, be able to hear your improvement, and be able to point towards a tangible goal for your playing. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
