I have been teaching music lessons since high school at the South Orange/Maplewood Adult School Summer Program back in 2009. I like to working with kids to encourage them to continue playing music and to build up a steady regimen of practice and self evaluation. I want to make learning music fun for my students and I want them to want to learn more and become better musicians. I began playing drums at a very early age and performing in my early teens. Throughout my teens I played in various jazz ensembles including the Empire State Youth Orchestra and began my studies at William Paterson in 2012 under the direction of Mulgrew Miller. At William Paterson I gained access to many incredible professional musicians and various performance opportunities in the North Jersey/NYC area. I am comfortable teaching with many piano methods. Some of my favorites include Alfred, Faber and A Dozen a Day Series. For more advanced students, I often recommend the Music for Millions Series or Bastien Piano Literature. For jazz, I often use Hal Leonard's "Your First Fake Book" and the "Joy of Jazz". All my students also get a strong foundation in scales and theory. I also stress learning all the notes on the grand staff and there are many good apps for this on tablets and smart phones. I was named a 2021 National YoungArts Foundation Finalist in Popular Voice and received the Merit Winner award for songwriting in the 2020 YoungArts Competition. I was selected into Grammy Camp 2020 and 2021 for Vocal Performance, NYU Contemporary Voice Workshop in 2020, and the NYU Songwriting Intensive in 2020. I won 1st in the 2019 NATS NJ Doris Lenz competition, 1st in the 2020 NATS NY, and 2nd in the 2021 NATS Eastern Competition. I was also recognized as a semi-finalist for the 2020 Hal Leonard vocal competition in the musical theater category and received the best soloist award for Blues/Pop/Rock Voice in the Downbeat Magazine 2021 Competition. I absolutely love to see my students succeed not only inside the classroom, but outside as well. All of my lessons are light, friendly, and inspiring. All lessons are fast paced and fun. All of my student's will be required to set up a practice schedule to ensure the goals agreed upon by both the student and the teacher are met.
