I love helping others develop a passion for music! Because of this, I find it highly important to work with each student at their own pace applying techniques that fit their learning style. I combine a variety of techniques and ideas that help keep the lesson engaging and fun for students of all levels and ages. Students can also bring in music they are working on outside of our lessons (band music, original compositions or music they just want to learn) and I can help them improve on the piece. Read More

I have been teaching students of all ages since 2010. I have been teaching both in my home studio and at the students home, I have also taught in Public Schools and in Music stores. My goal as a teacher is to get students excited about music and have them looking forward to our lessons together and inspire them to learn more and practice. The Trumpet is my main instrument but as a certified Music Educator I'm comfortable and highly qualified to teach many different instruments such as all of the Brass Instruments ( Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, French horn, Euphonium, Flugelhorn etc) and all of the Reed instruments (Clarinet, Saxophone and Flute) as well as Piano and Voice. I have been studying music for 25+ years, and I still study music on a daily basis. I play piano, flute, guitar, ukulele, sing, dance, and act. I am very passionate about teaching music and finding the life lessons that music has to offer for each student. I am a very exacting and precise teacher who requires the best from my students, yet I am extremely kind, positive, encouraging, and understanding. Read More

My teaching style is flexible based on the individuals needs. Some students require a firm approach whereas others are better off with a gentler one. I pride myself on my ability to connect with students and find what motivates them. My approach heavily relies on the historical pedagogy of every instrument I teach while also implementing improvisation and free play to excite and motivate. My students are strongly encouraged to attend concerts, master classes, and listen to live music as much as possible. Read More

For novice students, I will most likely start with a method book such as one from the Essential Element's series. However, I will typically move students through the method book quickly and get right into performance repertoire that is appropriate for their age and level. Composing your own pieces and learning to improvise are extremely important in my method of teaching so I will also start teaching students how to write their own music as soon as possible. Read More

For beginning students, what I start with generally depends on what instrument they play, but in general, I use various "Essentials" books. As the student progresses past the fundamentals of music and playing their instrument, I will move on to more advanced or technical musical exercises, as well as solo repertoire if the student is looking to perform for a recital, NYSSMA, etc. My teaching style for older, more advanced students is relatively the same, excluding the "Essentials" and fundamentals. The method books I use vary depending on the student and the district they attend. If a student isnt committed to one particular type of method book, I usually suggest the Standard of Excellence series because I feel it has a logical order of progression in terms of concepts. For students interested in learning jazz, I typically use books written by Jim Snidero, Lennie Niehaus, Hal Leonard, and Bob Mintzer just to name a few. Read More
