This series emphasizes the simple concepts to the advanced fundamentals, i.e. rhythm, articulation, breath support, fingerings. The lesson plans are incorporated in the Rubank Method with an easy progression through the fundamental starting with whole notes, half notes, quarter notes and simple to complex rhythms. More Information About Saxophone Lessons

Buying a Saxophone

For a beginning player, we would recommend renting a Jupiter, Yamaha, or Selmer saxophone. Sax students will also need to purchase reeds to play on their instrument. For new players a softer reed is more appropriate. The strength of a reed is measured on a scale from 1-4 with 1 being the softest and 4 being the hardest. We recommend starting with a Rico brand 1.5 or 2 reed, however, students should meet with their teacher first before buying reeds in bulk.

Saxophone Lessons for Kids

Our recommended starting age for saxophone lessons is age 8 or 9. Most school music programs have students start playing saxophone with the band when they are in 4th or 5th grade. The student needs to be big enough to be able to appropriately hold the instrument with the aid of a neck strap, and have the lung capacity to blow properly.
